Overpeck’s Inc. is a family owned business that has spanned over seventy-five years, and three generations of Overpeck family.

In 1928 Lawrence Overpeck Sr. began selling appliances out of the back of his truck around Parke County,  and eventually acquired two hardware businesses on Jefferson Street in Rockville.  There he combined the hardware with his appliances in a building that is still used today.  We have blossomed into a small town icon that has endured since the 1940s.  And while in our original buiding,  Overpeck’s has continued to add square footage over the years,  recently acquiring buildings within the block.

Home furnishings and an expanded hardware line were added in the years that the business flourished under the ownership of Wilbur (“Bill”) Overpeck and Thomas McMurtry, the son and son-in-law of Lawrence Sr., respectively, who along with their wives — Waneta and Inez — added a giftware and housewares line that is quite unique.  Bill and Tom along with their wives have served this community for over thirty-five years, and although Tom McMurtry has since retired you can still see Bill in the store doing what he loves, serving the public.

Currently, Overpeck’s continues as a family-owned business, managed by two grandsons of Lawrence Sr. and the sons of Bill Overpeck – Ashley and Gary.  In addition to Ashley and Gary, the staff at Overpeck’s Inc. boasts several other family members.  Leslie Overpeck handles a lot of the day-to-day operations at Overpeck’s and is a helpful voce on the phone for whatever you need. A family friend, Patrick Davis, is employed to keep deliveries and repairs running smoothly.

Please stop in and meet one or all of the Overpecks; they are always glad to serve you and help in any capacity.  Whether you need to make a purchase or just need ideas or advice, the folks at Overpeck’s are always there for you — gladly serving the Parke Country community for over seventy-five years with a reputation you can count on!
